I-5 bridge collapse must be a final wakeup call

After a truck with an oversized load hit the supporting spans and collapsed it on May 23, the state of Washington is now scrambling to reopen the crumpled Skagit River bridge on Interstate 5 as quickly as possible.

Massive bee killing found in Wilsonville

Tens of thousands of bumblebees and other pollinators were found dead under trees at the Target store in Wilsonville on Saturday. The discovery was a strange and ironic start to National Pollinator Week, a symbolic annual event intended to raise public awareness about the plight of bees.

Council adopts supplemental budget for current fiscal year

The Wilsonville City Council adopted a supplemental budget June 3 for the current 2012 fiscal year in the amount of $3.97 million.  Since adopting the current budget a year ago, said Assistant Finance Director Kathy Rodocker, several unanticipated projects and expenses have come to staff’s attention that require council approval to move forward.

City water features now open for the summer

City council approves $129 million Wilsonville city budget

As Wilsonville has grown, the city’s base property tax rate has not.  While urban renewal and special district taxes may have added to the average homeowner’s bill over the years, the city’s base tax rate, used for general operations, has not risen from its current $2.



Canby Ferry back in service mid-July

Airport plans remain on track, despite remaining questions about funding

It’s been quiet as of late when it comes to the planned expansion of the Aurora Airport.  Three years ago, that certainly was not the case. At that time, a series of contentious public meetings surrounding the update of the airport’s master plan finally descended into a shouting match between then-city councilor Steve Hurst and Oregon State Aviation Board chair Mark Gardiner.

Will Brindza was in the midst of the 16-week, military-style training course for the Oregon State Police when he first found out about CrossFit.  “I heard a couple of guys talking about CrossFit,” Brindza said.
