A Wilsonville resident is aiming to join the Oregon House of Representatives.

Maegan Vidal, a Democrat and West Linn-Wilsonville School Board member, is seeking appointment to represent House District 26, which covers Wilsonville, King City, Sherwood, Parrett Mountain and parts of Tigard.

The role was held by state Sen. Courtney Neron Misslin, D-Wilsonville, who was recently appointed to the Oregon Senate following the death of former Sen. Aaron Woods last month. The House District 26 seat will be filled via a vote by commissioners within Clackamas, Washington and Yamhill counties.

According to a press release, Vidal is a physician outreach advisor for Legacy Health and graduated with a degree in politics from Willamette University and a master’s in public administration from Portland State University. She used to work as a legislative assistant to State Sen. Avel Gordly. Vidal was raised by a single mother in Clackamas County and attended Oregon City High School, the release said.

“I am seeking the appointment to House District 26 to carry on Senator Neron Misslin’s steadfast and thoughtful stewardship for education, workforce development, and environmental protections. As the only Wilsonville resident on the West Linn-Wilsonville School District, I am a passionate and tireless advocate,” Vidal stated in the release. “I promise to bring my energy and resilience to the legislature to create and back policies that strengthen education and opportunities for our children and families, reinforce adequate mental and physical healthcare, and steer economic development forward while protecting our natural resources.”

Vidal was elected to the school board in 2023.
